ABINADI MEZA: GIVEN: THE WATERFALL, THE ILLUMINATING GAS
August 22 - September 22, 2008
Weinstein Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Given: The Waterfall, The Illuminating Gas by internationally recognized sound artist Abinadi Meza.

Given: The Waterfall, The Illuminating Gas is largely comprised of images and sound recordings made in northern Minnesota, near the Canadian border. The exhibition\'s title is inspired by Marcel Duchamp\'s enigmatic final installation, which was aimed at the solitary viewer, combining epic symbolism and erotic mystery.

This exhibit will feature a large installation titled Delay in Glass, which is comprised of six sheets of glass imbued with the sound of six waterfalls. Electromagnetic sound drivers vibrate each sheet of glass, turning the glass itself into a surface transmission of sound. Additionally, the exhibition will include Meza\'s photographic series Sound Channels, chromogenic prints capturing airplanes in flight, as well as a high definition video installation of a solitary lamp illuminating a field of descending snowflakes.

Abinadi Meza\'s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Most recently, he had a well-received solo exhibition, Found Voice, Solo Museum, at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He is the recipient of awards from the National Association of Latino Art and Culture, Ford Foundation, and JP Morgan Chase Foundation. He was the artist in residence at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin and his work will be featured in upcoming exhibitions at Sound Art Museum, Rome, Italy and Abrons Arts Center, New York City.
